REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPY
Massage therapy speeds the recovery of sore muscles by enhancing functions of the lymphatic system and removing toxins from the body.
What are the health benefits of Registered Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy speeds the recovery of sore muscles by enhancing functions of the lymphatic system and removing toxins from the body. It effectively delivers nutrients to tissues and cells, and breaks up adhesions from scar tissue to restore flexibility and range of motion. Treatments also induce general relaxation, which aids in recovery from stress and helps to prevent the onset of illness and injury.
Massage therapy is effective in aiding:
- Pain & discomfort with chronic muscle tension
- Stiff joints
- Forms of paralysis
- Overworked muscles
- Athletic performance
What does it mean to see a Registered Massage Therapist?
All massage therapists at Satori Health and Wellness are Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs). RMT is a protected title used only by those who have the educational and registration requirements after passing the colleges’ certification exams. In Ontario, RMTs are governed under the Regulated Health Professions Act and the Massage Therapy Act. This mandates a regulatory body called the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO).
Each school in Ontario follows a common curriculum. Depending on the school attended, the program is completed in 2-3 years. Students must complete training in several areas including:
- Massage theory
- Remedial exercises
Students are also supervised during their clinical experiences. The CMTO conducts regular evaluations of RMTs through its Quality Assurance Program.
What does a massage session typically involve?
You will be asked to disrobe to your comfort level, and will be draped with a towel or sheet. Only areas being massaged are exposed. Treatment is administered on a firm and flat padded table. Oils or lotions are applied using specific techniques, targeting your areas of concern.
Depending on the type of massage you choose, additional products may also be used, including warm healing stones and aromatherapy oils.
Sessions range in duration from 30 to 90 minutes; a typical full body treatment is 60 minutes.
Home care suggestions may be provided, enabling you to take active part in the healing process and to continue the beneficial results of your massage between visits.
